Jacket is unclipped ($13.95) with small chips at spine ends and small author last name sticker to bottom of spine. It is also trimmed 1/8 inch shorter than the book.

This is the hardcover only stated Knopf Edition from 1961. Other than a back cardholder flyleaf, this ex-library book has been well-read. There are small tears hither and thither. The dj, although still partially mylar-covered, has considerable wear and tear. Other dealers selling this book and stating that it is the second issue of the first edition have photos of this bio which show he has four children - clearly not the second issue. Second issue indicated by 4line colophon where it states "Bound by the Book Press, New York" in addition, the Library of Congress catalog number is 61-8127, and DJ mentions no other children's books books on right inside flap.Hardback is red cloth with blind stamped pictorial of James surrounded by wreath, with gilt lettering on spine. binding is tight, no marks of flaws to the text, very slight age toning.DJ (as reflected n the price) is in only fair condition, with magic marker scribbles in red on front cover. Otherwise, the DJ has minor chipping on margins, two open tars on top front cover and one closed tear on front right bottom of DJ. $3.95 price has been clipped. n admirable collectible copy of the first children's book and first year of publication.
