The bindings are lightly rubbed & bumped and the head & tails of the spines are lightly chipped. The labels are foxed with pieces out. 207 pages; 212 pages; and 240 pages. Vol. 2 is lightly cracked at p. 116. There are short tears to the front edges of 2 pages in Vol. 3. Good.

U.S. Secretary of State Robert Lansing's copy, with his bookplate on front endpaper of each volume (these were purchased from a family library in Henderson Harbor, NY, near his birthplace in Watertown, which included many other works owned by him). Spines faded, top edges lightly foxed. Complete in ten volumes. Burgundy cloth, gilt titles and rules. Despite stating 'Carlyle's Complete Works, Illustrated' on the title page of each volume, this edition includes no illustrations (the title page was likely reused from an earlier edition).
