Contains black and white illustrated frontispiece. The Works of Lord Byron Volume I: Letters 1804-1813. Gilt top text block edge. Rough-cut pages are lightly tanned and foxed throughout. Occasional thumb-marking present. Paper remnants to front free endpaper and half-title page, with previous owner's pencil marking. Newspaper clippings stuck to rear free endpaper and pastedown. Minor dog-eared corners. Binding remains firm. Minor creasing and small tears to text block edges. Boards have moderate edge wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Soft crushing to spine ends, with small split to bottom edge. Notable sunning to spine and edges. Minor black scuffed marks to all surfaces. Faint water staining to spine, with small black mark to top. Minor black marking overall. Book is slightly bowed and forward leaning.

Heavy tanning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Minor splits to spine ends and corners causing cloth to be frayed. Book has a slight forward lean. Visible wear marks to boards.

Full tan leather with black spine label, 9.5" tall and 2.25" thick, marbled edges and endpapers, illustrated with tissue protected full page engravings. Some external wear and rubbing with some tiny tears to the spine ends, some surface wear to front joint but cover very secure, text block firm, pages clean with some expected age-toning and a few instances of light scattered foxing, no names or other markings.. This is a complete uniform set all published in 1833 - it is the first complete set of the works of Byron - with Letters and Journals and His Life By Thomas Moore. All in green cloth - volume 1 with dark green with gilt text paper label to spine. The remaining copies all have gilt titles directly on the spine. All the volumes are in extremely good condition with some light bumping on corners. The binding and internals are extremely good. A beautiful set of the first published collected works of Byron..

Two copies of the frontispiece portrait, three other illustrations. This is the Holland Paper Edition limited to 100 numbered copies for America (acquired by Mr George E. Croscup) of which this is copy 56. Some scuffing to the spine and spine label. Although this is noted as being "volume 1", it was the only volume printed.

A complete set as originally issued. 12mo, 6 3/4" x 4 1/2", three-quarter burgundy leather over marbled boards; about 350 pages each, 5 banded spines, marbled endpapers, double engraved title page as well as typeset title page. This set was originally envisaged as 14 volumes but later expanded to seventeen with the inclusion of Don Juan. A very good set overall, but the exteriors are rubbed at all edges, slight scuffing at the spine, bindings tight, paper light to moderately yellowed with a previous owner's bookplate on the front end paper of each volume. Please note that overseas shipping would be prohibitively expensive.

Clean, bright and tight, with no annotation or inscriptions. A Near Fine part set, in a very attractive binding. Vols I-XII are dated 1832, XIII-XVII are dated 1833. The title to Vol. I states In fourteen volumes. This edition is well known as one of the first successful manifestations of gilt blocking onto trade cloth bindings. The process had previously been utilised on some gift book titles, but not on a large trade edition. Early issue sets of this Byron edition have a glazed paper label gilt blocked on the spine of Vol. I with the title blocked on the cloth of the remaining volumes.
