Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing, mild to end-papers and text-block edges. Hole to front free end paper. Ex Libris plate to front pastedown. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild shelf wear with light rubbing and corner bumping. Some light marking and sunning. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains. Gilt lettering is darkened.

Bishop Burnet was a Scottish philosopher and historian, and Bishop of Salisbury. He was fluent in Dutch, French, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. Burnet was highly respected as a cleric, a preacher, an academic, a writer and a historian. He was always closely associated with the Whig party, and was one of the few close friends in whom King William III confided. This is volume IV of the six volume edition & includes Book V "Of the Reign of King William and Queen Mary" & Book VI "Of the Life and Reign of King William III"; followed by a table of contents of the foregoing volume. Cloth, G+. xx+391pp, occasionbal light foxing, cloth rubbed at the edges & spine sunned, paper spine label a little worn fore edges untrimmed, a good reading copy. An abridged edition of Burnet's celebrated history of the Reformation, written in answer to Nicholas Sanders' 'De Origine et Progressu Schismatio Anglicani Libri Tres' which had attacked the English reformation as nothing more than a political move by a corrupt King. The book earned Burnet much praise.

GB: J. Read, 1737. 4 and 560 pages. (An abridgment of a larger work) Half leather with raised bands. Fairly tight text is heavily dust marked at edges and paper is perishing in some margins.
