At least two editions were published of this book in 1815, one in Connecticut and the present volume, which was published in New York. Despite the fact that this work was published in numerous editions, Alsop felt he didn’t really do Jewitt any real good, because he seemed to be reduced to a vagabond like existence marching around the country hawking his book (Field). According to Streeter Jewitt was the first white man to live with the Indians in Nootka Sound, and the work presents an excellent account of his adventures.
