Smith 5206 Jewitt was an English armorer on board the American ship Boston that landed in Nootka Sound in March of 1803. Chief Maquinna and the natives ended up slaughtering the Captain and all of the crew except Jewitt and the sail maker John Thompson. Upon escaping and making his way back to Boston, Jewitt published his narrative under the title A Journal Kept at Nootka Sound. This later enhanced edition is based on conversations with Jewitt.
