1598 Queen Elizabeth 1ed Pithie Exhortation Royal Succession England Wentworth

Peter Wentworth was a 16th-century Puritan who is best remembered for his Parliamentary addresses while serving in the English Parliament. His speeches were so notable that they are considered a turning point in how speeches would be delivered in parliament. However, many politicians were outraged at his speeches, to the point where he was ultimately imprisoned in the Tower of London. Wentworth was critical of Queen Elizabeth and heavily petitioned the royal succession in her name. He wrote a book while in prison, a book which is well preserved in the annals of English history – "A Pithie Exhortation to her Majesty". Wentworth completed this work before his death but never saw its publication as he died in the Tower.

1604 Scotland England 1ed John Hayward Union of Crowns King James I Elizabeth

John Hayward was a notable 17th-century English historian who is primarily remembered by his treatises on the reigns of British and Scottish kings. "Life and Riegne of King Edward VI" and "Henrie IIII" were published toward the end of his life. Prior to these, however, Hayward wrote a shorter work on the 1603 union of the Scottish and English crowns. This work, "A Treatise of the Union of the Two Realms" commends the union, but also gives context on what is to be expected in England under King James. Hayward had previously been imprisoned by the throne of Elizabeth I and was seeking quick approval from the new king with this 1604 work.
