[Minneapolis, Minn.: Harrison & Smith, 1888. First Edition. Presentation from Van Cleeve on the top of the title page: "Theodore L. Seymour from his old friend the author." Charlotte Ouisconsin Clark Van Cleve [1819-1907] was the first white child brought into what is now Minnesota. Born at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin while her parents were on their way to Fort Snelling, her father being an army officer. She was an American women's suffrage advocate and social reformer during the early history of Minnesota, and the first woman elected to the Minneapolis School Board. She was married to Major-General Horatio P. Van Cleve. 8vo., brown cloth, stamped in gilt & black; 176 pages. Very Good (covers nice & bright; contents clean & tight). The signature under the portrait frontispiece is a facsimile.
