The very scarce first edition of this political novel from the start of the twentieth century. The author's own copy, signed 'Richard Whiteing own copy published 26 April 1906' to the front free endpaper, in Whiteing's own hand.To the rear endpaper is a typed errata notice, captioned 'extract from a letter from Newman Howard. May 1. 1906'.A prominent journalist and author, Whiteing's novel principally concerns the struggles of Prue Meryon to support herself through work. It reflects Whiteing's views as a supporter of the women's suffrage movement.With a bookplate to the front pastedown, and twenty-four page publisher's catalogue to the rear. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to spine head and tail, with cloth exceptionally bright. Front hinge starting, with board holding firm, rear hinge strained, with board detached to head. Bookplate to front pastedown, inscription to front free endpaper. Spotting to fore edge of text block. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with significant spotting to first few leaves. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
