VG. 15 Cm x 22.5 Cm. xvi+455+(1, author list), 43 text figs; label ghost top outer corner fr.pastedown, sl.creasing across top outer corner half-title fading out on 3rd leaf, otherwise internally excellent being clean, tight, unmarked & good end-gutters. Stippled orange covers clean & minimally worn but sp. moderately darkened. Although written from a pious perspective this references most contemporary scientific developments and provides a useful picture of the issue as understood by late 1870s.
