About This Item
London: Oxford at the Clarendon Press. 1927. First edition. First edition. India Paper issue. Two books in one volume. Publisher's original black cloth with gilt titles to the spine and a gilt motif to the upper board, in dustwrapper. Top edge gilt. Containing a fold out map and a fold out facsimile letter. An excellent near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth and gilt bright and fresh with a little faint mottling. The contents, with faintly spotted to the closed text block edge and mildly toned to the fold outs, are otherwise clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the lightly rubbed and nicked dustwrapper which is a little toned to the spine and folds. An attractive example, scarce in this format. H. M. Margoliouth, formally professor of English at University College of Southampton and at the time of publication secretary of faculties at Oxford University, collects Marvell's poems from the original printed versions and Marvell's manuscripts, his letters are reproduced primarily from Marvell's autograph.
