In the ordinary course of events, Joan Creighton and Paul Lescaut would never have met. The meeting was due to Joan's elderly cousin, an ex-Firs Lady, now a widow who wished to travel. Joan agreed to accompany her on a trip abroad. Paul was a highly recommended French courier. From the first, Joan felt an attraction and could tell that it was mutual. What she could not know was that Paul was in the pay of some ruthless men who wanted to abduct the ex-First Lady. Their travels led them to a trap in a lonely Alpine valley.
