About Item: Edition Braus, 1986 2 volumes 4to (29 cm), XVI, 552 pp; 328 pp. Laminated boards. The catalogue of an exhibition of manuscripts and printed book from Bibliotheca Palatina. The library at Heidelberg, the most important German Renaissance library, was founded in 1430th and contained umbering approximately 5,000 printed books and 3,500 manuscripts (including from Ulrich Fugger's library). The Bibliotheca was captured during the Thirty Years' War, taken as booty by Maximilian of Bavaria and presented to the Pope. While some of the books and manuscripts are now in the University of Heidelberg, the bulk of the original collection is in the Bibliotheca Apostolica Vaticana.
