About Item: Philadelphia: M. Carey & Son, 1817. Volume I only of the First American Edition, issued without the maps and plates. 340 pages. Bound in contemporary paper covered boards. Very Good Minus, front board nearly detached with broken joint, rear joint starting to open but hinge holding well, boards soiled and rubbed at edges, moderate toning and foxing throughout, title and dedication pages uncut. Koster's classic work on the North of Brazil, first published in England in 1816, with a 2nd edition following in 1817. This 1st American Edition published and printed by Carey July 16, 1817.
