Expert paper restoration and repair to title page, including backing with Japanese tissue. There is some staining to title page.. Woodcuts. Perhaps the first book on the Lincoln assassination, originally published about a month after the event. George Alfred Townsend was a pioneering war correspondent during the Civil War, and covered the Lincoln assassination and its aftermath for the New York World. His early dispatches to them were gathered here and published at the start of the trial of the conspirators on May 18, 1865.
