About Item: [1956]., [1956].. Good. - 14 words penned in blue ink on a 2-1/4 inch high by 3-1/4 inch wide card. Signed "Helen Hayes". The bottom corners of the card are very slightly soiled & there is a hole punched in it at bottom right with 2 tiny chips to its circumference. Good. Helen Hayes [1900-1993] was known as the "First Lady" of American theatre. She writes: "Jean Darling -- / We will do our best for you tonight -- Because we love you." In November 1956 Jean Dalrymple produced a revival of "The Glass Menagerie" at City Center starring Hayes who, as a favor to her friend, performed for Equity minimum. The note was probably attached to a gift or flowers.Jean Dalrymple (1902-1998) was the dynamic producer and director of theater and light-opera at Manhattan's City Center.
