Isaac Bashevis Singer (1902-1991) was a Polish-born Jewish writer who wrote and published only in Yiddish. He won he Nobel Prize in Literature in 1978 and was also awarded two National Book Awards. The artist for this edition, Raphael Soyer, was a Russian-born American painter, draftsman, and printmaker referred to as an American scene painter because of his interest in men and women viewed in contemporary settings (N.
