Book has been rebound by library, with expected inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Pages are lightly tanned and thumbed at the edges, with light foxing. Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn, slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed. Tanning to spine and edges. Light wear to unclipped dust jacket with tears, nicks and creases to spine, edge and corners. Dust jacket attached to boards.

Clean pages and illustrations with noticeable tanning and foxing throughout. More pronounced to free endpapers and pastedowns. Pencil markings to front pastedown. Moderate crinkling and cracking to gutters, with exposed netting. Frontispiece detached but still present. Tape marks to frontispiece and title page. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Lettering is darkened. Visible wear marks to boards.

Bound in contemporary half calf, calf corners, marble boards, flat gilt decorative bands, red title label. Calf rubbed, head of spine worn with loss, short split on hinge joint. Generally binding in good condition. Internally, contemporary of early gift inscription on top margin of title pages, one engraved plate working loose. Pages and hand coloured plates in good clean condition. A3. First Edition. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Some foxing to one section of text, o/w. contents beautifully clean and in fine condition. More recently rebound in red cloth (dated 1968) to mimic original binding. A lovely copy. A very charming work, beautifully illustrated with fine hand-coloured botanic plates. Each chapter is written in the style of letters from a teacher, or lecturer. Each letter is highly informative and very much of the period. A real joy to peruse.
