Tichnor Brothers, 1930 Circa 1940's. Original booklett with many pages of photo illustrations from the White Mountains in NH. 'White Mountain National Forest' birds-eye views, lots of Franconia Notch area. Larger than the usual ones like this it measures 10" tall, with color covers. Quite nice.

A photo book of various scenic locations in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, including the Flume, Lost River, Mount Washington, Franconia Notch, The Old Man of the Mountains and other areas. VERY GOOD condition. Superficial abrasion to the upper rear corner of the cover. Minor edgewear. Interior clean and solid.

Owner's signature and date on front end apper. Dj has some edge wear and chipping, and some short closed tears. Top and bottom of dj spine are worn. Otherwise a solid, unmarked little volume in archival mylar protected dj. 69 pp..

Portland, ME: Chisholm Brothers, 1885 A quite scarce and early view book, undated circa 1880/90 with 23 (some with insert views) views in the Whites. Bds are fairly clean, contents are clean and very good. 5-7/8" x 5". Deep Maroon paper-covered bds with embossed decorations and titles in gilt, black spine cloth. Both bds loose still quite attractive. One of a series by Charles Frey. NOTE: Although they are generally referred to as "photo-views", the pictures in these small, popular albums were not photographs. They were printed with stone, in a multi-pass process that displayed a range of tones not possible with ordinary lithographic printing. When covered with varnish, the pictures looked as if they had been printed in an emulsion, like a photograph. Printed predominantly in Leipzig, Germany by Louis Glaser and distributed by Skillings & Howard, Portland, ME, Chicholm Brothers, Portland, ME, Adolph Witteman & Brothers of New York City.... et al.

Along with A pink card room pass for #66 at Wentworth Hall in Jackson, undated, also...the Souvenir list with Members names of 29 members, including the man in charge Mr Charles W, Barrett and 2 late-comers who were penciled-in after the printing.
