The sheets are either supplied by the publisher or printer (mostly the printer); should the amateur wish to have his books in sheets, he may generally get them by asking his bookseller for them. He served his apprenticeship with Herr Krupp of Stuttgart and then moved on as a journeyman to work for Stephan in Vienna. He had a brother who was an established jeweller in London, and on a visit to London he decided to stay on and work for Wesley, and then Mackenzie, who at that time was considered to be the best bookbinder in London. Here he remained until 1842 when he set up in business on his own account, the business flourishing until he died in 1886, when his son, born in 1853 in London, took over.
