Internally, there is light tanning and foxing throughout, but there are no other markings or inscriptions, and the pages within are neat and complete. Near fine in the rare original dust jacket which is in very good condition. The title of this volume refers to the staircase in the Thoor Ballylee castle which Yeats purchased and resided in with his family for some time. Yeats saw the castle as a vital connection to the aristocratic Irish past which he adored. The phrase "winding stair" is used in the book's third poem, "A Dialogue of Self and Soul", which depicts the confrontation of Yeats' soul with his self.
