Description:
Boston, MA: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1970. First Printing. Hardcover. Very good/fair. 275 pages. Notes, bibliography, index, DJ worn and soiled: edge tears/chips. Signed by Thomas W. Wilson & Thomas W. Wilson III. The strange case of the U.S. Government against J. Robert Oppenheimer culminated in the suspension of his security clearance on June 29, 1954. The author argues that Oppenheimer had long been engaged in a lonely intellectual struggle to comprehend the nuclear revolution's meaning for political and military traditions and for the relationships between the great powers. He was in a rare position to foresee the ultimate irrelevance of conventional defense policies.
