Description:
Libanon, (Penn.): Gedruckt bey J. Schnee, für M. Carey in Philadelphia, 1810. First edition. Hardcover. Fair. 12mo. [7], 8-240, [2] pp. Original brown calf, spine in six compartments with a red morocco label lettered in gold on the spine. Illustrated by a frontispiece depicting the death of General Montgomery and six additional plates of scenes from Washington's life. Sabin 102479. Howes W218. Sabin cites this publication from Weems as separate from, but similar to his other work on Washington's Life, (titled Washington's Life and Memorable Actions). Weems was an early American author who wrote several books on intemperance, marriage, and the life of George Washington. A Fair copy with wear to the extremities, especially to the joints; leaves show some chipping, largely unaffecting the text, with the margin of the frontispiece lost and the second plate showing a neat tear.
