Neat inscription on front endpaper, otherwise a very good plus clean tight copy of a scarce Wain title. Copies of this title turn up with 1904 printed on the title page and top edges blue, these also have the imprint of the New York printer H. B. Claflin Co. Others undated like ours sometimes have Treherne's street address, ours does not. The British Library and the National Library of Scotland hold undated copies with accession dates of 1903. Anthony Treherne & Co, 1903. 1st edition. Hardcover. This charming, miniature book, 3 x 3 inches, contains 20 of Wain's delightful pictures of kittens, on stiff card pages, text opposite each painting, with a charming 1903 inscription from 'Grannie' on the first page. It is an extremely scarce book because its size meant it was very vulnerable to loss and damage, and this copy is nicely sturdy from a rebacking and is in very good condition. In 1903 Wain was at the height of his artistic powers, and this was the first book he published focusing specifically on kittens.
