Includes charts, tables and four black and white drawings. Pages have mild tanning and foxing throughout. Mild cracking to gutters, with exposed binding. Faint pencil inscription to front endpaper. Boards have light edgewear with corner crushing and notable marking to boards. Ring marks to rear board. Notable bleaching spot to spine. Minor warping to front board. Mild tanning to spine, which has mild crushing to ends.

Not only does Vanderbilt boldly sign the title page in full in blue ink, but neatly tipped to the front flyleaf is a Typed Note Signed from him, 1p, 7" X 7½", New York, NY, 28 July 1964. Includes the hard to find original slipcase. Blue hardcover with darker blue cloth spine, top edge gilt, original cellophane dustjacket, blue slipcase with cover label also indicating copy no. 228. Includes folding plans, charts, plates from photographs, tipped on color frontis. The book is in about fine condition with good hinges, a firm binding, clean pages with no other names or markings. The cellophane cover is wavy from age and has some chips mainly to the spine, the slipcase has edgewear and surface splits to the top and bottom of the spine but is structurally sound.. First edition limited to 250 signed and numbered copies, 4to, pp. [4], xvii, [1], 230; tipped in color frontispiece, numerous plates from photographs, charts, plans, etc. (some folding); edges and corners a little worn, 3½ x 1 inch stain on front cover, plus two other smaller and less obvious ones, else a very good copy in original quarter blue buckram lettered in gilt, embossed America's Cup ornament on upper cover, t.e.g.; without the scarce publisher's blue folding box. This copy is no. 19 and is inscribed by Vanderbilt on the limitation page to "Edmund Lang with the compliments of Harold S. Vanderbilt." Lang, who died in 1940, was a member of the New York Yacht Club, and was Chairman of the America's Cup Race Committee in 1930, the year Vanderbilt and his J-Boat Enterprise won the America's Cup.
