Charles James Fox (1749-1896) had a parliamentary career spanning some thirty-eight years. He opposed King George III, believing his intentions to be tyrannical, supported the American Patriots and was a noted anti-slavery campaigner and supporter of the French Revolution. He spent the majority of his career in opposition and served as Britain's first Foreign Secretary.Written by Sir George Trevelyan (1838-1928), a British statesman and author.With charming gilt detail to the spine, border and the gilt emblem of St Olave's School in Southwark. In a full calf binding. Externally very smart, slight fading to the spine and wear to extremities. Prize bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound, pages are bright and clean.
