This is Volume Three only of a ten-volume set from a decade later. A nice early printing bound in blue smooth calf. Ruled in gilt on both covers; four raised bands on the spine, decorated and titled in gilt. Clean text;vi, 488 pages; endpapers and page ends are marbled. Light rub to the margins. Lacking a tissue guard, the title page has spotting snd offset but the textblock is bright and fresh, with no spotting. A very nice book.. Later Printing. Full-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

In addition to the famous Waverly novels, Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) also edited collections such as this, an early posthumous volume that was originally published in 1802. (In an irrelevant aside, It seems rather odd that six years after his death, his name was not on the Title Page.) Large octavo; publisher's brown cloth binding, ruled, and blindstamped with a wreath (a memorial?) on the front cover. The spine title is bright gilt. Clean text, very bright an supple still; 559 pages, with Scott's 83-page Introduction. Previous (contemporary) owner signature on the title page.Some minor bumping Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Blue reading ribbon. Owner's bookplate to front pastedown of each volume. Volume 1 has cracked hinge but still holding; remainder of binding is secure in all 3 volumes. Light foxing marks to preliminaries with a few pin prick size foxing marks outside of text block. Pages remain clean, bright without tears or folds. Light rubbing and wear to boards and edges. Minstrelsy marked Scott's true literary debut, written and published as a collection of the traditional ballads that Scott had been collecting in yearly trips to the Borders since 1792.

Some pages show browning but overall a decent set internally and externally. Frontispiece to Volume I. Vol. I Pp.cxxxviii,[iv],258 + errata page. Vol. II, pp.[viii],392 + errata page.
