Saarikoski (1937-1983) was a prominent Finnish poet and translator. The Finnish Wikipedia notes: "As a person, even before the term became familiar, Saarikoski was a 'celebrity' whose activities were followed and who liked to tell the newspapers about his affairs. Both his person and his production were affected by heavy alcohol consumption. This led to a delirium attack and hospitalization as early as 1968 ... Still, he did not change his drinking habits and continued on his chosen path until his death.
