Description:
(PETTIBON, RAYMOND). Pettibon, Raymond, Nelson Tarpenny, Victor Gastelum & Josh Bayer (aka "Sketchy"). RAYMOND PETTIBON'S TRIPPING CORPSE 3. Lawndale, CA: SST Publications, 1983. First Edition #166/500. 8vo. Stapled Illustrated Wrappers. Artist's Book. Fine. 32pp, 28 b&w illustrations. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. Raymond Pettibon first came to prominence during the late-seventies with his raw, literary-inflected imagery for Black Flag, Sonic Youth, and SST Records. Over the subsequent decades, the erstwhile Southern California artist has deservedly become an international contemporary art icon. "Limited to five hundred copies (of which some four hundred were destroyed)", "Tripping Corpse 3" is his 1984 SST artist book cum 'zine that reproduces twenty-eight psychologically-charged drawings. Description:
Lawndale, CA: SST Publications, 1983. First Edition. First Edition. One of 500 numbered copies (this being No. 105), noted in red manuscript ink annotation to the bottom right corner of the front wrapper by Pettibon. Pettibon started as an underground artist on the west coast in the early 1980s. His early publications were issued by the SST Record label (responsible for bands that now seem close to the mainstream, such as Husker Du and Dinosaur, Jr.). Pettibon's work also graced the album covers and flyers of seminal rock bands of this era, such as Sonic Youth and Black Flag. His work is now considered important and quite collectible. 28 leaves. Near Fine.
