Description:
Open Court Co, 1899. Hardcover . Very Good. A rare item. Near fine copy. Large 8vo, flexible cloth covers. 48 pages of hymns, notes and commentary establishing a theological foundation for the new "Religion of Science": "Most of our funeral hymns are based upon a dualistic conception of life, and there is need of a new song to express the new faith of the Religion of Science which no longer believes but knows that there is an immortality of the soul, and that this immortality is not in a Utopian heaven, but takes place here in this world and in this life of ours". Carus was an influential 19th century philosopher and founder of "Open Court" publishing company.
