Parkman's work may be the most familiar piece of western travel writing to modern readers. The exciting adventures of the young Boston Brahmin loose on the Plains makes excellent reading. Field remarks: "Mr. Parkman had all the genuine love of adventure of a frontiersman, the taste for the picturesque and romantic of an artist, and the skill in narration of an accomplished raconteur. It is not too high praise to say that his pictures of savage life are not excelled.

Solid binding and clean interiors apart from previous owner's gift inscription dated 1935 and a couple small bookstore stickers to top of rear pastedown. Bottom front corner of spine bumped and rear top corner, some light wear to rest. Jacket is present, but has definitely seen better days with edgewear and chipping, especially and corners and spine ends, tears/splits to most creases including 3 inch split to front bottom spine crease, and stains to back cover and spine. Overall though, very rare in this jacket with this cover illustration.
