Translated from the Italian 'Mussolini: Piccolo Borghese' by Brigid Maxwell. Pages remain bright and clear with minimal tanning and foxing. Binding remains firm. Heavier tanning to endpapers. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Gilt lettering is darkened. Mild crushing to spine ends. Sunning to spine and edges. Unclipped jacket has heavy edgewear with some areas of loss, heavy tears, chips and creasing.

Mussolini's government became Prime Minister in 1922 and in the early years were marked by attention to domestic issues rather than foreign policies. With the emerging middle class in post WWI Italy, in Rome this class was mainly composed of civil servants, people with a certain degree of education and the desire to imitate the standard of living of the upper classes, but prevented from doing so by low wages. Fascism was a nationalist and aggressive dictatorship and by the end of the war the Italian people were thoroughly tired of his regime.
