Description:
Washington, 1885. vi,[2],172pp. plus errata slip and two sets of the two large folding maps. Cloth, leather label. Small chips in the edges of the first and final leaves, but with no loss of text. Maps printed on brittle paper and with several splits at folds, but with no loss of content. Overall very good. A detailed report on the internal commerce systems of the United States, with an emphasis on railroad transport. There are detailed descriptions of railroad lines with statistical analyses of their rates and use, and an extended discussion on the transportation of wheat. There is also much information on the tonnage of vessels passing through ports, steamship transportation statistics, etc. This copy of Nimmo's report contains two sets of the two folding maps, which so the transportation lines west and east of the Mississippi. The prolific Nimmo is best known for his report on the range cattle industry, which also appeared in 1885 and is one of the "Big Four" cattle books.

Light foxing to edges of text block and mild spotting to endpapers. A few tears to maps, though all complete and generally only with mild wear. Includes a map of the principal transportation lines west of Chicago, St. Louis, and New Orleans, in addition to seven others. Scarce; a Very Good copy.
