Description:
New York: Aperture Foundation, 2007. First Printing of the Second Edition by Aperture. With more than 50 large full page photographs by Lisette Model. Folio, original photographically decorated boards, lettered in black on the spine and in the illustrated dustjacket. 112 pp. A very fine copy, essentially as pristine. AN UNSURPASSED INTRODUCTION TO ONE OF THE 20TH CENTURY'S MOST SIGNIFICANT PHOTOGRAPHERS. This volume contains more than 50 plates, representing Model's greatest images, from the Promenade series to later studies of surreal inhabitants of New York taken in thoroughfares and hideaways. Her vision encompasses an ingenious exploration of the mystery of glamour in America: in window displays, jazz clubs, the circus, and elsewhere. Lisett Model's students included Diane Arbus, Larry Fink and many others. This printing was reissued by Aerture of their classic 1979 monograph to celebrate the twenty-fifth year of the photographer's passing.
