New York: Grosset & nDunlap, 1926. Reprint. Hardcover. Very Good in Good dust jacket. 19.5 x 13 cm. 12mo. 319pp. Yellow-orange cloth in the uncommon Nathan Machtey illustrated dust jacket. No interior illustrations Bit of chipping to jacket spine. Small pieace out of back cover. All four flaps are clipped. Tail of spine and corners of boards are bumped. Originally titled "The Circular Staircase" when it was published in 1908, it was adapted and renamed as a play performed in 1920 and a silent film was done in 1926. This work is said to be the inspiration for Batman.

Foxing to page edges and somewhat throughout, a nearly fine copy in a very good dust jacket from the Grosset & Dunlap photoplay tie-in edition (for the 1926 film), with edge wear with some shallow chips and several small closed tears, foxing to the verso with some bleed through, mostly to the rear panel. Small bookplate of late collector John Ruyle affixed to front paste-down. (30912). In 1920 Rinehart's 1908 mystery thriller THE CIRCULAR STAIRCASE was adapted into a very popular play, The Bat, by Rinehart and Avery Hopwood. Near fine bright copy with a trace of edge wear in a very good slightly dust soiled dust jacket with a few mends by an expert paper conservationist. The front panel of the dust jacket is a striking design of the shadow of a bat.
