New York: Harper and Brothers, 1899. Author's National Edition. Hard Cover. Used; Acceptable. PRICE REDUCED DUE TO CONDITION. There is an inscription on the back of the half-title page, indicating "This is the authorized Uniform Edition of all my books." It's in longhand, and signed "Mark Twain", and would probably add a thousand dollars to the value of the book, except that (as documented by the Mark Twain Project" this is a steel-engraved facsimile that appered in many multi-volume editions published about that time. The red boards have severe fraying and rubbing as well as insect damage; the text and b/w illustrations are remarkably well preserved for their age.

It is a pyrotechnical display of colorful words, phrases and idioms, so important in the Mark Twain lexicon; and it is a speech which one might well expect to find in the oratorical repertoire of Col. Mulberry Sellers in the 'Gilded Age.' " - Foreword.
