Description:
N.p.: Privately Printed, 1925. Hardcover. 8vo. White cloth spine with gilt lettering and blue paper over boards, dust jacket. xiv, 252pp. Top edge gilt. Very good/good plus. Faintest of edgewear, with endpaper lightly age toned; jacket edgeworn, rather age toned and rubbed and with a few small edge chips. This cryptic edition limited to 1500 copies, this one -- as are most -- unnumbered. Louys died at age 54 on June 6, 1925, which perhaps occasioned this edition. First published in French in 1896 and a blockbuster in its day, the first novel by this French poet and writer (1870-1925) concerns court life in ancient Alexandria and bears the erotic lesbian overtones that colors much of Louys' work. Tight and nice -- internally near fine. Though jacket quite worn, it's complete and fairly attractive nonetheless.
