Written in pre-antibiotic days when venereal disease was on the increase - with some heart-rending case studies including a woman infected by her husband and the impact on the children. Inscribed 'from the author' on a preliminary. Classed as 'fair' because the binding, although currently sound, is very worn at the spine and edges and is grubby; and internally there are library marks. This copy was part of a bequest from Arthur Jacob to the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland library in 1871 (and therefore it is possible that Jacob was the original receipient of the book from the author). Jacob has put his name in capitals at some points (including the title page and the reverse of the last contents page and at the end) and there is a library stamp to the title page.
