This is an antique copy of "SALMAGUNDI - or, the Whim-Whams and Opinions of Launcelot Langstaff, Esq. and Others" by WASHINGTON IRVING, William Irving (Washington's oldest brother), and James Kirke Paulding. 1860; G.P. Putnam; New York. This copy features an engraved title page and frontispiece (with a tissue guard). Decorative cloth binding with gilt illustrations on the front cover and spine. "Salmagundi" was a 19th century satirical periodical that lampooned New York City culture and politics (in a manner much like today's 'Mad Magazine').Condition:Clean covers and spine. Cloth tears at the cover corners, and at the top and bottom edges of the spine. Tight binding with no loose pages. There is a crack at the front hinge between Contents pages iv and v (despite the crack, the front cover is still firmly attached). Both covers are firmly in place and are not shaky. Publisher's cloth boards with gilt titling and decoration. VERY GOOD. Shows the extremities shelf rubbed with marginal instances of loss, boards somewhat shelf rubbed, engraved former owner bookplate of the period at the paste-down, otherwise the binding is strong and tight, the text is clean and unmarked, and the boards remain distinct. As pictured.
