London: J.N. Boydell and Company & G. And W. Nicol, 1806. John Ireland (1742-1808), an enthusiast of the artist, edited John Trusler's "Hogarth Moralised" (1768) to produce these works. First published in two volumes in 1793; a third supplemental volume came out in 1798. These are Very Good copies of the Third Edition (stated). Full leather binding, decorated with decorative both blind and gilt stampings. The spines are ruled and decorated in gilt, with titling in gilt within red and black compartments. Marbled endpapers and page edges. Volume One has a frontis portrait of Ireland and the half-title has Hogarth and his dog. the text is clean; cxxii, 237 pages. There are forty plates, including Garrick as Richard III. London: Boydell and Co. 1812. 8vo. Three volumes. Burgundy, full straight grained morocco, with gilt decorated spine and boarders; all edges gilt. Slight wear to the spine and corners, gilt bright. Slight damage to the top corner of the third volume. Bindings firm with slight separation to the front hinges. Some scatted foxing and slight offsetting to some of the leaves. Bookplate of the nineteenth century MP John Walbanke Childers to the front pastedown. Illustrated with black and white wood engravings. A beautifully bound set.
