Scarce original printing of this electrical engineering text; the author was an important professor of electrical engineering in Europe, the first to specialize in that field, at the Institut Electrotechnique Montfiore in Liège; he was also one of the founders of the International Electrotechnical Commission and earlier taught at the School of Mines at Liège. The book, translated from the fourth French edition, has omitted chapters on European machinery, which at the time differed substantially from American, replacing them with chapters by Charles P. Steinmetz on hysteresis and molecular magnetic friction, Dr. Cary T. Hutchinson on units and dimensions, Dr. A. E. Kennelly on impedence and the theory of alternating current.
