London: Printed for the Author, 1773.. Second edition, "corrected and enlarged". Folio. (ii), iv, ii, 716 pp. Later tan half calf over early worn boards, gilt lettered green spine label, marbled endpapers, old inscriptions inked out to the verso of the front free endpaper, two old pieces of paper affixed adjacent to this, one of which is a newspaper cutting. Frontispiece with later, slightly naive, handcolouring plus 80 plates featuring fine contemporary handcolouring, plate 29 supplied from another copy with old colouring executed to a similarly high standard. Slight fading to the spine, plate 8 torn to the lower corner with slight loss to the text but not the illustration, occasional minor marking, generally a very good copy of a magnificent work. Henrey, volume II, p.95-98. First published in 1757 with sixty plates, this edition benefits from the inclusion of a further 20 plates. Usually found with black and white plates - coloured copies are much scarcer on the market.
