The covers are quite rubbed and soiled. 300 pages, with 83 full-page illustrations and 11 engraved plates, mostly portraits. The binding is cracked at page 130. Else, good. <p>First edition. Rare.<p>This is the first volume of an eventual three. Volumes 2 and 3 were laterpublished in 1912 and 1913.

White Planes: Henry T. Smith, 1898. First edition. An ambitious effort to tell the history of the County together with a biography of distinguished men who held County office. Two additional volumes published some years later (1912 and 1913). Obviously Ben Fairchild was so enamored by his wonderful banknote engraved portrait that he spilled a small amount of his coffee that has discolored the top inner hinge of it and a few of the surrounding plates.. This does not greatly distract from the over all condition of the volume. Lg 8vo 300pp, 83 plates, 11 engraved . Orange cloth with tan boards. Gold stamped seal on cover, title on spine.
