Some occasional mild cracking to gutters throughout however binding remains reasonably firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Mild crushing to spine ends. Peeling and loss to spine leather. Mild crushing to spine ends. Cloth has minor damp and dust stains.

Beautiful decorated binding - clean green cloth boards with black, cream and gold decoration on cover and spine. No fading or wear; bevelled board edges. Small closed tear at ase of spine. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound - no cracking. Pages and edges are clean with gilt top page edges. Clean pale yellow endpapers, with small bookseller's ticket (Cheeseman Brothers booksellers, Medina, New York) on front fixed endpaper corner. "Christmas, 1878" neatly penned at top edge of front free endpaper. No date of publication, circa 1878. Illustrated with six steel engravings. All pages have red decorative line border. 584 pages..

London: Frederick Warne [no date]. (Leather binding) 712pp. Very good, no dust jacket. Burgundy padded leather, gilt decorated cover, all edges gilt, ribbon marker, decorated endpapers, index. Spine lightly sunned, inner hinges cracked, previous owner's inscription. Better known as Mrs. Hemans. (Poetry).

Approx 1860's .595 PP. Hardback quarter Suede or leather. Faded gilt decoration, sunned Leather spine. Inch split on top sides of spine but binding overall strong and solid. Four raised bands and gilt on somewhat scuffed spine. There are some loose pages in a couple of places in the book but none missing as far as I can see. There are engravings throughout the volume. The frontispiece illustration is clean and unfaded, and with its tissue guard in place. Text framed by red graphic lines throughout volume. All the type is unfaded and legible. There are no stamps or other attachments. I've found no writing in the body of the book. Happy to answer any questions and will gladly email a scan of book.
