London:: Sam Buckley,, 1713.. First Fleetwood edition. Stated second edition [see description notes].. 8vo.. Recent quarter leather over marbled boards bound as period style, fine. Title page with some minor soiling faint pencil notes at bottom margin and old library stamp on verso. Minor edge wear but overall a very good copy. Scarce book. St. Winifred or St. Gwenfrewy Abbes of Trefynnon and of Gwynthenn (d.600 AD), was honored from early times in Wales as a saint. In 1136 her relics were translated to her shrine at the Benedictine Monastery in Shrewsbury. Two years later her life was written in Latin by Robery, Prior of Shrewsbury (1d.1167). Roberts Life was translated by ÔJFÕ (likely John Falconer) in 1635 and republished in 1712. Bishop William Fleetwood thought the translation so poor that he published this translation the following year hence the statement ÔSecond EditionÕ on the title page.
