Grayish/dark brown covers with gold lettering on spine. Text has glossy pages and is in better condition than the rating given due to 2 x 4 rippled area on all pages. Probably caused by getting a bit wet a while ago. DJ in very good plus condition with no ripples and almost no handling showing. Glossy pages makes this book heavier than most of its size. Quite a few colored photographic plates of Cadfael's countryside with descriptions. Packed weight is 2 lb 14 oz therefore making international s/h a bit more than usual. Library stamps to prelims, cloth tape reinforcement to hinges, early pages appear to have been reglued, tape remains to pastedowns. Jacket is somewhat wrinkled but otherwise quite reasonable and could be ironed to go on a better book as it displays little wear and could be brought up to VG.

Hardback. Macmillan UK. 1977. Hardback lacking dj. The edition with the mistake at page 97 where line ten is repeated at line eleven. This is appears to be an ex library copy which looks like it was bound for the purpose in green cloth. Ffep is missing and there is one library stamp to rear of title page. Some stains throughout but on the whole this is a solid copy that will fill a gap in a collection of the Brother Cadfael Medieval whodunnits especially as the very first Cadfael novel. Packed and posted with care.
