This is a collection of stories that are based on the author's travels in 1907 to 1908 when he was correspondent of Harper's Magazine in Syria, Palestine, Arabia and Egypt. The stories are so well crafted they read almost like fiction and are accompanied by 17 illustrations (including the color frontispiece) printed on glossy paper. Both Duncan and Harris were Canadians, although the author largely worked for U.S. publications, including The New York Evening Post.
