A near VG copy with clear evidence of water damage to the boards and to the rear end-paper and with a number stamped in ink to the front paste-down. Photographs/scans available upon request.

Publisher's maroon-red boards with gilt lettering to the spine all contained within a double border high on the spine. Light surface soiling in places to the boards. Small sticker shadow on both front and rear end-papers. No marks or writing inside. A very sound VG copy. In the RARE D/W priced 7/6 net to the inside flap (as called for). The D/W is in near fine condition with just the merest hint of creasing/slightest wear at the head of the spine. There is a faint crayon number to the spine which suggests, based on past experience, that this was formerly the H & S File copy. Great cover art of a gipsy woman cooking over a fire. A bibliographical note: this is the correct dated first edition in the first impression D/W which is black and red in colour and the status of the D/W is confirmed by the price of 7/6 to the inside flap.
