London: Printed for James Knapton, 1700., 1700. 8vo. pp. 8 p.l., 448. contemporary mottled calf (covers detached, light dampstaining to lower outer corner throughout). signature on title of 'T.Fletcher', possibly the poet [1646-1713]. First Edition. Davenant's Discourse gives a detailed criticism of the gifting of forfeited land by the crown. He provides historical examples from English and Roman history and individual histories of ministers of state who were impeached for receiving grants. The last section of the book deals with the policy which should be followed in the case of the Irish forfeitures. Davenant argues the Irish land should be used for the public revenue.
