This work is Bohn's 'Extra Volume' as the publisher doubted 'the propriety of including Count Grammont's Memoirs in his 'standard library''. This is because the work, despite being praised as 'a classic work, the delight of every man and woman of taste', is full of 'curious historical information'. To the leaf on the verso of the half-title, Bohn questions if this work meets up to the standard of other works in his library series which is why it is published as an 'extra volume'. This work was originally claimed by Antoine Hamilton to have been dictated to him by Philibert, Count de Gramont, however it is likely that Hamilton was the true author.
